Hell hath no fury like a
woman spurned in The Upside of Anger, a family dramedy from
the same school as American Beauty. Joan Allen stars as
Terry Wolfmeyer, an upscale Detroit mom shaken to the core
when her husband runs out, leaving her with four daughters,
a booze addiction and a randy neighbour (Kevin Costner) to
drown her sorrows with. How this slighted suburbanite
rebuilds her life forms the gristle in Mike Binder's
waspishly entertaining critique of middle-class mores.
