Upcoming Events:

Watch this space for news about other upcoming events and future arts cinema seasons. Meanwhile, below are some of the past events in which the arts cinema has been involved.

Past Events:

Special screening - SHINE
Tuesday 17th February - 7pm at the Wildwood restaurant cinema in Cathedral Square, Peterborough.

Image 01 Many of you will be aware that former arts cinema committee member John McGarry sadly passed away at the end of last year after being assaulted in Peterborough city centre. John was a valued member of the committee and also an accomplished classical piano player. By way of a tribute to John we will be screening the 1996 film Shine at the Wildwood restaurant cinema.

Shine is a critically acclaimed 1996 Australian biographical drama film directed by Scott Hicks, based on the life of the brilliant but mentally fragile pianist David Helfgott. The film gained international recognition, earning seven Academy Award nominations, and a Best Actor Oscar for its lead, Geoffrey Rush.

NOSFERATU
Tuesday 12th November - 7pm at the Key Theatre

In addition to our regular programme, we are very excited to announce this amazing presentation in partnership with the Gateway Film Festival. F.W. Murnau’s classic silent film Nosferatu, made in 1922, still continues to haunt and terrify audiences.
Image 01 The film was the first-ever screen adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula and captures the deeply-rooted elements of a waking nightmare. Its eerie, Gothic feel – and chilling performance from Max Shrek as the vampire – set the template for horror films that followed and remains one of silent cinema’s masterpieces.

The film will also feature a live score by Minima, a Bristol-based four-piece group specialising in live accompaniment to silent film screenings since 2006. Their instrumentation of cello, double bass, guitars, dulcimer, synthesiser, and drum kit create an uncompromising and unique live sound.

Watch an excerpt from Minima's production here and read some further information. You can also check out some photographs from past Minima performances.

‘Minima's spine-tingling music clung to each twist of the movie... spellbinding accompaniment’ – The Guardian
